Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of your breasts. By inserting an implant under the muscle of each breast, Dr. Mukerji is able to increase your bust line by one or more bra cup sizes in most cases. The best candidate for breast augmentation is someone who is healthy both physically and emotionally and is looking for improvement, not perfection.
In your initial consultation, Dr. Mukerji will evaluate your health and explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you based on the conditions of your breasts and elasticity of your skin. Dr. Mukerji typically places implants under the muscle through either an IMF, axillary, or areola incision. This placement interferes less with mammograms than if the breast implant is placed directly behind the breast tissue. How your implants are placed and positioned will depend on your anatomy and Dr. Mukerji’s recommendation. Every effort will be made to assure that the incision is as hidden as possible.
Two types of breast implants are available – saline-filled or silicone. Either style is available in several profiles with either a smooth or textured-surface shells. They are a wide range of sizes to fit different body types. At your consultation, you will be able to try on different sizes of implants in order to get an idea of which size you would like. After your consultation, Dr. Mukerji will also give you his recommendation for the type and size of implant that would be best for you based on the information you gave him. The surgery is a same day surgery done under general anesthesia and lasts about one hour. Recovery is usually another 2-3 hours, depending on your needs, before you are discharged home. You should be able to return to work in a few days depending on the level of activity required for your job.
Breast augmentation is not considered medically necessary and is not covered by medical insurance. If your breasts are sagging, a breast lift may also be recommended to achieve the best result.

Breast Augmentation Consultation
Plan to spend 30 minutes to one hour at your initial consultation with Dr. Mukerji. During this consultation, you will discuss your surgery goals, your plastic surgery options and go over the risks and benefits involved with your surgery. Your decision to have surgery is a highly personal one that not everyone will understand. The important thing is how you feel about it.
Prior to your consultation, make a list of questions. Many things will be covered during your consultation and it is easy to forget all the questions you had. Be sure to let us know if you smoke, the medications you take including vitamins, and any other health problems. Be aware that smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict which reduces blood flow, and the oxygen it carries, to the surgical area. When your blood supply is reduced, tissues heal more slowly and there is an increased risk of complications. If you smoke, Dr. Mukerji will let you know if you need to quit smoking prior to your surgery and for how long. If you are required to quit smoking prior to surgery, a nicotine test will be administered on the morning of your surgery.
Typically, most of our surgeries are in Newbury Park, CA performed under general anesthesia.
